Winchester Model 40 12 gauge very good condition, rare
$1600.00
The history behind this Winchester model 40 is interesting. Made in 1940 to 1941, recalled, then destroyed and customers then received for replacement, a new Model 12 Pump rather than the semi auto Model 40. Winchester went into war time manufacturing and did not work out the issues with the shotgun and it was never put into production again. The issues were the recoil mechanism started to fail and caused damage to the stock and receiver, due to poor heat treatment of the springs. Needless to say not every shotgun were returned to Winchester for repair or replacement and a few survived being destroyed. Not all of the Model 40's failed and were damaged. The owner, the grandson of the original purchaser, has hunted dove with his Model 40, never having any troubles with the shotgun. However I would not recommend firing or using this in the field. It is a C&R and quite collectable because it was produced only for one year. It is in very good overall condition and would be a fine addition to a collector of Winchester firearms for that uniqueness alone. A rare collectable Winchester that won't break the bank.
